Isaiah 36:1-3

Passage:
Isaiah 36:1-3
Sennacherib Invades Judah.
1 In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah,
Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against
all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.

2 And the king of Assyria sent the Rabshakeh
from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem, with a great army.
And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool
on the highway to the Washer’s Field.

3 And there came out to him
Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household,
and Shebna the secretary,
and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder.

Journal:
Chapter 36 is interesting, because it turns the prophecy of Isaiah into actual history witnessed by Isaiah. In Chapter 1, Isaiah informs that his life spans the lives of four kings of Judah covering forty years -- Kings Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah. Previously, Isaiah has spoken prophetically about the events of King Hezekiah's reign. Now, in 701 B.C. [which is the "fourteenth year of King Hezekiah"] the Assyrian forces have reached the city walls of Jerusalem. [Isaiah 36:2 -- "And the king of Assyria sent the Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem, with a great army."] The prophecy has become reality. At this point, Israel had fallen to Assyria and the assault by Assyria on Judah [like Israel] was due to its disobedience to God and its rejection of God. Assyria was known for its brutality and cruelty, and is a vivid picture of the dire and relentless consequences of sin and rebellion.

Heard 'Round the House:

I have passed along hundreds of "Heard 'Round the House" musings over the years, but today's offering may rank as one of my favorites, as Jill is teaching the four "big kids" [Alex {12}, Luke {12}, Song {9} and Anna {8}] at home school, as world geography and American politics are on an unexpected collision course --

Mom: What can you guys tell me about Morocco?
Anna {8}: Are you talking about Morocc O'Bama?
